Try this delightful Chocolate Banana Cake that’s moist, rich, and perfect for any occasion. Enjoy a healthier dessert with every slice at Tales Of A Kitchen!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed (the riper, the better!)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional for extra chocolate goodness)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy – this usually takes about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the eggs to the butter-sugar mixture one at a time, ensuring each egg is fully incorporated before adding the next. Then stir in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined. Gradually add this dry mixture to the banana mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix! If desired, fold in the chocolate chips for an extra chocolatey kick.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Keep an eye on it to prevent overbaking!
  7. Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use Very Ripe Bananas: The riper the bananas, the sweeter your cake will be. Look for bananas with lots of brown spots!
  • Storage: Keep leftover cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for a week.
  • Frosting Ideas: Consider topping your cake with a light whipped cream, a rich chocolate ganache, or a simple dusting of powdered sugar for an elegant finish.
