Mint is famous for soothing the stomach and reducing fatigue. But it’s not mint that I want to talk about today. Meet Matcha – a super cool potent powder full of crazy sexy health benefits.
I love green teas and consume them on a regular basis because they’re full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Out of all, Matcha is my all time favorite, both in flavor and benefits. Unlike regular tea leaves, which are brewed for tea (and which end up at the bottom of the tea pot and are eventually discarded), Matcha is a powder that gets completely dissolved and ends up in our bellies with all the goodness it provides. A single serving of Matcha provides the nutritional benefits of about 10 cups of brewed green tea!
Nutrition is a rather young field of research and lots of new findings are released everyday. All you have to do is google the health benefits of Matcha green tea and explore some trustworthy sources. You’ll be amazed by some of the findings. Some studies say Matcha has more antioxidants than pommies or blueberries. Others found that the antioxidant known as catechins (unique to Matcha) have potent cancer-fighting properties and can also help counteract the effect of free radicals from pollution or UV exposure. What’s more, others confirmed that the amino acid L-Theanine, abundant in Matcha, promotes a state of alert relaxation (or relaxed alertness). Whichever way you want to name it, it is said to help us remain alert yet calm; this being one of the reasons Matcha has been consumed by monks for centuries as an aid to meditation practices.
This smoothie is one of my favorite pick-me-up afternoon treats. It gives me a boost of energy, clarity and focus to tackle the second half of the day. And because it’s made primarily with fruits, you can imagine it tastes just like a sweet and citrusy rainbow of flavors, which lift the spirits (if they need to be lifted) from the first sip.
