Happy New Year everyone! Did you have a great time over the holidays? Did you? Did you? Are you excited about the new year and all the opportunities that lie ahead? Well, are you? I sure am. 2014 was quite a ride for me, full of incredible experiences, disappointments, big changes, ups and downs, things I never tried before and never thought I would. All in all, I would not want to change a thing. I was joyful, sad, pushed my limits, learned and grew and learned and grew some more.

I’m not one to make resolutions or lists at the beginning of a new year. I love lists so much that I make them all the time throughout the year, whenever the mood strikes and my desk is full of them. I even make lists about prioritizing the lists! What I do know and want from 2015 is more. More of everything. More love, more experiences, more limits shattered, more cooking, more health, more peace. Ok, definitely not more sadness if I can help it, just more life. For me, my family, dear friends, for you and you know, everyone else sharing the same planet. I want to make 2015 happen, rather than to have it happen for me if it makes any sense.

How I’m planning to achieve this? Well, there’s a list of course, but all in all, my plan is to stop focusing so much on the future or the past, and live in the present a little bit more. No more trying to be better than who I was yesterday or trying to be the person I want to become in the future. Better to simply be the best human that I can be…today. Because today is really all we have, isn’t it.

I celebrated the new year the only way I know how: with a really great run and a really big smoothie. Nothing makes me feel more alive and more nourished than exercising and a delicious smoothie.

Mango peach matcha smoothie

Prep time: 

Serves  1 big smoothie / 2 regular

Base ingredients:

  • 2 celery stalks (leaves included)
  • 2 bananas
  • 1 peach
  • 1 mango
  • 1 TBSP chia seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • juice of half a lemon
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 1 cup water

To layer it up:

  • 1/2 tsp matcha powder
  • 1/2 tsp spirulina
  • 1/2 cup hemp seeds / quinoa flakes / rolled oats
  • optional toppings: blueberry lollies, pomegranate gems

Steps

  1. Add the base ingredients to a blender and whiz until smooth.
  2. Pour half the smoothie into one or two jars.
  3. Add the matcha and spirulina to the remaining smoothie in the blender and process for a few seconds.
  4. Gently sprinkle the hemp/quinoa/oats onto the first layer of the smoothie then pour the second layer.
  5. Best enjoyed right away with toppings of choice.
